There are a multitude of pathways to permanent residence, whether you’re in Canada or outside of Canada.
Express Entry
“Express Entry” is an online system used by the federal government since January 1, 2015 to manage applications for permanent residence for skilled workers with a skill type occupation 0 (Zero) or National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level A or B. This system consists of three programs, each with different minimum requirements.
– Federal Skilled Worker Program
The program is open to candidates with work experience outside of Canada who wish to establish themselves in Canada on a permanent basis and who have a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the scorecard.
- Skilled Trades Program
This program is intended for workers with certain “specialized” occupational qualifications. These include industrial, electrical and construction trades, maintenance and equipment, natural resources, agriculture and related production, processing, manufacturing, chefs and cooks, of butchers and bakers.
- Canadian Experience Class
The program is intended for applicants with Canadian work experience who wish to become permanent residents.
Quebec Skilled Workers
This program is for people who want to immigrate to Quebec permanently to work. If their profile meets the criteria sought by the Province of Quebec, they may receive an invitation to apply for permanent selection. It is necessary to have training and professional skills that will facilitate employment integration in Quebec.

Provincial Nominee Program
Outside of provincial programs (excluding Quebec and Nunavut) backed by the express entry program, each province and territory in Canada has its own programs.

Sponsorship
As a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident who is at least 18 years old, some family members can be sponsored to come to Canada. This program is therefore for those who wish to sponsor:
A spouse, common-law partner, dependent child
an adopted child
parents or grandparents
Other members of the family.
Regardless of the type of sponsorship, the sponsor will not only need to ensure that the sponsor is financially supported, but also that the sponsor does not have to seek social assistance from the government.
